Smart & Slim-Line Shoulder Bag
Thank you so much for your lovely birthday emails and comments, you really are a lovely bunch of folks:)
Sometimes a gal just wants to be able to weave effortlessly in and out of the crowd, to be able to nip in the head of the queue, and generally be ninja-like in the city! I live in London and weaving in and out of hordes of people is a way of life, if you don't it, you'll never get home, let alone reach the till in the shop! Unfortunately I wouldn't say that I move like a ninja in the city, because of my fondness for choccy, and crisps, but having a slimline bag to transport my shopping essentials certainly does help with being just that bit nippier not to mention keeping my purse safe from naughty fingers!
I have made this bag for the September 07 issue of Sewing World Magazine. 'scuse the creases, I was so relieved to finish it, and then get it sent off!
Front View. The bag has a slash style pocket; which kind of reminds me of kimono tops. I have used this pretty fabric, 1 mock croc panel, and 1 mock crock shoulder handle both in 'Chocolate'. I'm pretty chuffed with the way it turned out, all of the colours work really well with each other, and even the fabric matching worked out OK (I've never done that before).
Side View - Unlike me, this bag is slim :)
Hey guess what? I have FINALLY FINISHED the new tutorial bag!! It's looking good, I'm on a roll, yay! I just have to write the instructions for it - which is the crappy bit :(

Just how do you see those strap tabs/thingies in on your machine. Isn't that rather bulky? I love the look of it!!!

Sleek and inspired! Excellent matching. Pardon my bag-making ignorance, but what are the buttons for (or are they buttons)?

Oooh, awesome bag, love the way the side pocket matches up, love the lining!
I fell in love with that fabric when I first saw it and bought a whole yard (a lot for me). I went back to the shop recently and bought another yard -- love love love it! (Even blogged about it, briefly.)
Thanks so much for being a constant source of inspiration, both for your creativity and meticulous workmanship.

I really like the combination of these two materials and the slash style pocket is a great idea. Thank you so much for continually providing bag making inspiration!!

Lovely bag Lisa, simple but beautiful nonetheless. I've had some mock crock fabric for ages and never known what to do with it. May give it a run out on my sewing machine now though!

Lovely bag...but I was distracted by the chocolate and the crisps- mmmmmm. I always have a little bar of Maya Gold in my bag...

Love the latest bag! It's so sleek.
I was just doing a little write up on my blog about you and your blog and store and was wondering if there are any pictures or information you'd like me to include?
You can email me at
mel_anie_gray@hotmail.com if there is.

That's a beautiful creation--and I wanted to say thanks for the magazines which arrived earlier this week, that was such a nice surprise to find in the mail box!

Also, Lisa, I've looked at some of your bags and love them so much but do you sell them? I've looked around the home page and it seemed you only sold materials for making your own bags. Do you do Etsy? I love the basket style you have on the bottom of the sidebar with the blue bow and the Asian-fabric bag you have pictured on the tutorial for the style.
Of course I could go on I love so many of them. . . if you sell bags what are your shipping rates like? I'm worried about the UK to Alaska thing.

What a beautiful bag and I love the way you have matched up the birds tail.
Love that it is so slim.

Marvellous! I love the slash pocket idea, and the way you have lined up the pattern is fantastic- it wouldn't have occured to me to even attempt that!

The bag is gorgeous. Think I have to copy your idea and make one for myself.
The pattern matches perfectly. Again - lovely.

Hi Lisa - Is there any way to purchase this pattern (and the sassy purse one) without buying the magazine? I am in the US and shipping charges for the magazine are quite high. I also love the current issue bag, can't decide which one I like best.
Happy Tuesday

Hi Lisa
I have just subscribed to Sewing World and this was the first issue I received. I have finally got around to making this bag and it's truned out beautifully - and it only took a couple of hours.
Really looking forward to takling the furry one in the next issue.
