Big Bag Making Booty up for grabs! (again)
Do you remember just over a month ago I had a Cupboard Clear Out, and the result of the tidy up was a whole load of Bag Making booty? Well I'm sorry to say that the winner didn't claim their prize. I am sorry for the winner, but as I've written in the post that 'I can't notify winners' I've got to stick to my guns (or you can get sued and yuk stuff like that; believe me it has happened on other blogs (not to me, and not ever hopefully). I just want to remind folks that in all draws & contests that I hold on my blogs I don't notify winners, it's nothing personal, I just have a squillion other things to do all of the time.
.
Al loves a good clear out; he's such a tidy guy. I promise you this IS NOT a posed photo. I was taking some pics of my WIP in my workroom when AL came up the stairs with his tools of the trade a la Mrs Mop, so I had to take this snap. It makes me giggle - I don't know why, it just does! We are finally getting carpet (after a wait of 2.5 years) in the hallway this Friday, can't wait!
OhhhhKaaay! This means that the very same bag making booty is still up for grabs. Just in time to run up some Christmas pressies. Great eh? Here's the pic if you want to feast your eyes again...
What's this? It's a tidier cupboard! This little lot is made
up of odds and sods that I'm not going to use, or I don't sell in my
shop. Some of it isn't perfect, but if necessary it can be tidied up.
Anyways it's enough to keep anyone busy for a little while! The bag
making booty includes:
- 10 pairs of handles
- Some single handles
- some gold screw type handle hooks (some of them have seized up, but they are still pretty)
- a bronze coloured purse frame
Well, I don't suppose any of you sewing, crocheting, quilting, or knitting fiends fancy getting your hands on this little lot do you? I'll post this bag making booty to 1 lucky draw winner.
To enter all have to do is comment on THIS PARTICULAR POST by:
- Telling me what bag making advice and/or tutorials you would like to see on this blog.
Contest Officialness (yawndom):
- I'll draw the winner in 1 weeks time - 8th Nov and announce the winner next day-ish. Good luck!
- As this prize is on the heavy-ish side I'll need to ask the lucky winner to make a donation for the postage.
- Sorry, I can't notify winners, so please keep an eye for the winner announcement (this is made easier if you subscribe to this blog so you don't have to keep checking back, although it's always great to have you pop-in for a read :0)
- Sorry, I can't reply to contest/draw comments, but I do love reading every single one :)

Oh how desperately I wanted that gear, it's hard to believe it went unclaimed. Any chance I can get it this time?? There are a lot of great pieces I can readily get here in town and I'd really like to try my hand at a clasp bag. You already have tutorials for those though, but I could always use more ideas and help in that way.

Silly comes to mind!!! OOH! OOH! Pick me... Pick me...
Lisa all of your tuts are great and there are so many that I would want to see on your blog e.g. adding zippers to a bowling type of bag, pleats, handles, laptop bags. Anything that you do would be great. Your a great teacher to us all.

hi Lisa am loving your stuff anyway. I would like to see more tutorials based on current bag trends. The other day i saw a bag at Liberties(The Shop) that i really liked i have this gorgeous fabric that would work with the design but i cant for the life of me work it out :-(

I agree with the comment above that all your tutorials are useful, so I really don't mind what comes next- it's always a nice surprise and, if not something I want to make, always uses some new (to me) technique.
I suppose, that's really the only thing I would ask (although, as I said above, you tend to do this anyway)- it would be nice if you included one new technique in every tutorial (or, wherever possible).
Now i'm off to place another order...does that get me special treament?..I would love all those handles..!

As a female builder, I try as hard as possible to keep my femininity at work. i.e. with my pink timberlands and fresh faced makeup!.
I would like you to do a feminine but practical tool belt for me where can hold items like;
My Tapemeaure, Pencil, Laser measure, note book, gloves, lip balm and chewing gum!
Thanks,
Sarah

Hi Lisa! I would love to see a tutorial on how to make zippered bags with *recessed* zippers. Since I have no idea if I'm describing this correctly, here's a pic of what I mean. This is a bag (made by Cinnamon) that has what I'd like to learn: http://www.notmartha.org/images/other/designsponge/cinnamon/bagtop.jpg

I was going to say interfacing but then I checked back and see you've done a couple of posts previously - and very helpful they are too. Though I do get wrinkles sometimes with iron-on and I'd love some tips for how to deal with that.
Design and pattern drafting. I usually doodle and then draw out my pattern on newspaper, making a little mock up before starting proper (and dread cutting into my precious fabric) but I'd love to know how you do it.

Received my Amy Butler pattern today, and can't wait to get cracking over the weekend!
As for tutorials etc how about a 'Back to Basics' for novices/beginner's like me. I'm sure there are plenty out there a bit daunted by this sewing stuff but wanting to give it ago.

I'd go with a couple of others; design process is a good one. I have in my head a bag to use in December with a Christmas theme (I love Christmas and my husband has threatened to divorce me if I make anything else for the home!
Can you give us a tutorial on having the confidence to 'have a go' rather than just ooo-ing at your yummy bags? :0)

Your blog rocks! I love reading it.
I would love to see some more information on adding pockets and compartments to the insides of bags. Of all different shapes and sizes and uses. Like on the inside of school bags for pencils, mp3 players, lipstick, id cards, change, etc.
And I'm also going to cast my vote along with the posts about pattern drafting. That would be super, too.

In this era of recycling I would love to see tutorials about salvaging metal frames, snaps, embelishments, clasps and handles from older or thrifted purses.
Thanks,
Morgan

I'd like to know how decision is made regarding how you decide the size of a bag and what fabrics are appropriate for particular styles of bags.

I would like a tutorial for a weekend style bag as well. Also, I'm interested in vintage bags and would love some advice on this topic.

How about a yoga mat bag? I have such a quandry with the circle ends, so I made mine squared ends. :) I know you'll make something fabulous with useful pockets, like maybe an expandable mesh pocket for the water bottle.

Hi Lisa,
I'd like to see a tutorial on how to finish your work off nicely. Tidying up threads etc.
thanks

I'd like to know how to create a bag around a set of handles... as in "I love these handles! What kind of bag should I make around them?"
Posted by: Carey | November 02, 2007 at 11:17 AM
I just found you via Amanda Soule.I love your blog.I would love to be in the draw for the handles and seeing as they are the prize maybe a tutorial on how to use them would be good?! x

I always learn so much from you both here and on your other site it's hard to know what else to ask for. So I think I'd like to know more about different kinds of inner and outer pockets and inner dividers you can put in bags and how you do that well. For the bags I make, more pockets are a common request, and I like the idea of adding more internal organization to things. Thanks!

As others have stated, you do a great job explaining techniques and writing tutorials. I always seem to have trouble with neat finishings: attaching handles, attaching linings, making zippers look neat, etc. Thanks!

I would love to see a tutorial on how to add pockets, etc to your bag after it is all finished, because that's when i usually decide i wanted something extra, after i finished making it. I usually try to work it out for the next bag LOL :)

I LOVE your blogspot. I just came across it not so long ago and already have used one of your tutorials. You are so very talented.
I must agree with Hannah- I would like to see a wallet tutorial-functional to hold ALL my cards and pictures. Thank you!

Oooh yay, a second chance! :D Let's see... I think I'd like to see more recycled-style stuff. Like maybe a patchwork bag from bits of fabric, or reconstructed items, yes. Or using random odds and ends as bag handles and such, 'cause I can't shop online and it's quite difficult to find these hardware stuff around... :(
Posted by: Aneesah | November 04, 2007 at 08:22 AM
I've got quite a few pairs of those round circular handles that i can't resist buying (such a bargain! Not if you don't do anything with them!) but no patterns with which to use them.
And the only time I did try to use them, the air was blue as I tried to turn the bag the right way out and they wouldn't fit through the hole! There was more than a bit of foot-stamping and things flying across the room that day!

I'd love a messenger/laptop bag tute!
