The Get Around Bag - Pattern Information

Sewing Pattern includes 9 pages of clear step by step instructions with LOADS of helpful colour photos and full-sized pattern pieces (which are US paper size friendly).

Finished size: 15 6/8” (W) x 10” (H). (40cm x 25 1/2”cm)

Materials:

• 3/4 yrd of 44” wide fabric for exterior and matching thread (72cm of 112cm).
• 3/4 yrd Med iron-on fusible interfacing (only needed if using quilt weight exterior fabric) (100cm).
• 3/4 yrd Fleece/med weight wadding.
• 3/4 yrd of 44” wide fabric for lining and matching thread (72cm of 112cm).
• 1 x Gucci style bamboo handle.
• 1 x 6/8” magnetic snap - large (18mm)
• 1 x 1/5” (13mm) bolt snap
•  Disappearing fabric marker or chalk
•  Pins and a stitch ripper

I could well imagine rocking up to a summer picnic with this bag or taking it on holidays.  That said, this pattern would look fab in wools or corduroys for the cooler months. 

Front.  It's a roomy size of 15" x 10" (38cm x 26cm), great for longer trips into town, but is still feminine.  It will comfortably hold a book, a bottle of water, cardi, wallet and camera.  Closure is a flap and mag snap.

Inside is a natty trimmed inner pocket and a key/wallet loop.

Nice rounded shape (yes I know I have a thing for rounded shapes, but I think curvy makes the world go round - see what I did there?)  The bag is double lined with fleece to help maintain it's 3D shape (without it feeling rigid).  I can confirm she feels so nice and squishy by your side.  The handle is wide and long enough to slip over your arm.

Soft Bottom :)

Inside there is smart self-trimmed inner pocket and also a key/wallet hook to deter naughty fingers. I HATE naughty fingers (after my wallet was pinched recently).

Salad Days and Salad Dressing

Loads of grown-up work to be getting on with now that we are back.  Slowly ploughing through it.  Thanks so much for your nice hello emails :)  I hear that (in the UK) July has been pants for the weather, I know I shouldn't be surprised.  Ah well.

Here are a few more holiday snaps (that will be the last of them).

In the mountain in Segovia.  See that zig zag road leading to the bridge in the distance?  We rode over that on our scooters.  It was just like those blokey car ads hugging windy roads except it was more exhilarating and a hell of a lot more scary - my knuckles were bright white!

Just another typical pretty street scene in down town Segovia.  Any more relaxed and they have to resuscitate everyone.

This believe it or not is the oldest restaurant in the world.

Yep, dunno about you, but I'm lost for words...

Ooh, yes please!

The amazingly beautiful (and touristy) Sagrada Familia designed by Gaudi.  It's stunning, but so over run by tourists (no irony lost) we couldn't bear it.

...and inside.  This was only a sixth of the stock they had and the staff inside were sweet old folks with bi-focal spectacles and tape measures around their necks.

Last evening of looking really holiday healthy before returning to London. No more salad days, back to work!

See this droolsome plate of fish yumminess?  It's smothered in an incredibly delicious traditional Spanish dressing.  The recipe for it is below...

Spanish Parsley Oil Recipe

Slather it on your fish, meat, veggies and salad or use it as a bread or crudités dip or whatever!  It's a bright green zingy & garlicky taste of summer, it looks so pretty, and it's healthy too.

For an average sized jam jar (it keeps for ages in fridge) you will need:

• 50g of flat leaf parsley roughly chopped
• 100ml of extra virgin olive oil
• 4 anchovy fillets (this doesn't makes the dressing taste at all fishy, it just deepens the flavour)
• few twists of black pepper
• salt to taste
• 1-2 fat cloves of garlic
• a quick shake of sherry vinegar (approx 1/2 tspn) or to taste.

Method:

1. Bung the lot in a food processor and whizz it up until all is well mixed and the parsley is fine. Taste the oil and add more seasoning or sherry vinegar to your liking if necessary.
2. Find something, anything to put this oil onto pronto!

Changing Colours

Bon Journo Bella!  Thanks to all who said a holiday hello.  I'm glad you are well.

I am now in Cagliari, Sardinia and am more relaxed now than I have been in a looong time.  Just as well really because there is heaps of work waiting for me when I get back and fall/winter is going to be insane-io.  Now that my batteries are recharged I'm looking forward to getting on with it again and I miss making stuff as much as I miss my doggie and my kitchen.  I'm looking forward to getting back and getting stuck into it.

I was thinking how colourful my holiday has been.  I fell off my flipping scooter (not serious) so I lost a bit o' skin and went a bit bruisey (lots of folks giving me a pitiful look, whilst giving Al a "you rotten so so, how could you?!'' look. - oh dear) I have had my hair cut and dyed some of it a lovely shade of raspberry red.  I reckon it looks kinda arty.  And another change of colour is our birthday suits; of course like many sun-staved brits we have been utter sun-sluts :)

My hair changing colour.  Me looking all moody after just having my hair cut and dyed red in Barcelona.  Randomly dropped into this English speaking hair salon, had my tresses cut by Anthony, and had one of the best haircuts I've ever had!  Does this mean that every time I need a hair cut I'm going to have to hop on a plane?  Like, how cool would that be?

Al changing colour.  He LOVED The girl with the dragon tatoo.  He's never gotten through a book so fast.  He's grieving a bit now because the book is finished :(

There's something incredibly inspiring about loafing around on the roof terrace of your B&B roasting yourself a shade of gold and sketching whatever bag shapes come to your head.  I'm very excited about the bag designs that I have cooked up for my book. I think they are a bit of departure from the designs I have done in the past (in a good and different way).  I have been surrounded by Spanish and Italian fun, flamboyant and tres chic colours and shapes in clothing and bags all holiday and I have been a sponge to it all!  I have been sketching bags like the clappers without a magazine or Internet in sight (or any other distractions).  If I'm lucky enough to write another bag book I'm sure I will bugger off on holiday again to get my inspiration fix.  Hopefully the tax man will view it as a business expense - what's that you say Mr Tax man? "Yes sure thing, consider it done" you say.  Aw! I love you Mr Taxman!!!  The sun has obviously fried my brains because I am hearing tax men saying nice things...

Okeydokey.  I'm going to slope out of this beach front bar (with wi-fi) and fix up some fish and salad for our dinner. Ho hum how am I going to manage?

Hola from Barcelona!!

Hola dear readers!  I hope you are all happy & well.  Al and I are on hols in Spain (and later Italy) for a another week.  It's been so good to not have access to a PC and spend some time with Al before we come back to - chop chop busy busy work work back home.  We won't have the chance to have 2 consecutive weeks off for goodness knows how long after this so we're making the most of it.

This has been my 1st visit to Spain and I really love it.  Folks are very friendly, the food is dee-lish-ush, the weather is scorchio, and parts of it are so, so beautiful.  Plus, this having a siesta in the middle of the day is a stroke of pure genius (oh and it takes under 2 hours to fly to (ahh love that!)).  Another thing I love is the the vibrant arts and crafts scene.

Me on a scooter in Navafria (see below), in the mountains, nr Madrid.  I later fell off the bloody thing...more about that in my next post.
