And the winners of the Amy Butler Sewing Pattern Contest (May 08) are...

Poor Andy getting beaten into submission by Rafa...(who has rather yummy man arms...mmm...man arms)... ahem.

Thanks to everyone who entered. This month's Amy Butler monthly contest was more about clothes.  It was so nice to see more clothing being modeled by the likes of you lovely ladies (and a rather handsome Mark).  So the winners of May's Amy Butler sewing contest are:

2231286175_f9630ae3d8
Just gorgeous (I want that fabric!) perfectly fitting Anna Tunic by Creative Reveries.

Lotus
Very pretty Lotus Tunic.  I love her fabric choices. By Kimmersk9.

Barecelona
Delicious Barcelona Skirt with matching bag.  In fact her whole outfit is just adorable.  By Orchid22.

Well done Ladies!  Please get back to me with your choice of Amy Butler pattern and your postal address and I'll send you your pattern.

Thanks to everyone else who entered, sorry you didn't get lucky this time.  You could always try your luck in next month's contest!
Next month's contest is about striking a pose with your Amy B. item.  Oh! I can't wait to see your entries :)

...and the winner of the £50 ($100) U-Handbag giveaway is....

So sorry for being late (as per usual) to announce the winner of this draw.  Believe me, I don't do it on purpose (for effect, like daft competition TV shows do these days - I miss The Apprentice sooo much!)

UHA contest
Up for grabs was a £50 ($100) trolley dash around my shop.

So, there were 169 entries and the Random Number Generator stopped on the number 41,

So will Christine who wrote:

"Wow happy birthday to you and wishing many more years of happiness and success:)

I was just thinking yesterday how much I love your blog and how much I appreciate you being such a generous person and sharing some of your patterns and many of your clever tips. It's great to see someone "who's made it" but still is generous in spirit and knowledge/experience sharing. I'm glad you haven't become "stingy";) on the way.

Anyway, I would have loved joining your bag making course I had been living in the same country as you (consider expanding to Norway, will you?:)

If I was going to your bag making course; I think I would have wanted to learn how to make an across the shoulder/chest messenger type bag. One that is cleverly organized and...pretty:) I always drag tonnes of stuff in my bag to work: crime novel, private sketchbook, work sketchbook, moleskin, a snack, a scarf, some work in progress knitting or embroidery project...and the list goes on:) With 2hours to work that includes: a bike ride, a long train journey and a shorter bus journey; I need plenty of stuff and a nice comfortable/safe(thinking of busy hands in busy places)/pretty bag to pack it all in:) Yes, so that is the bag I would have liked to be making, a bag I think you would/could design perfectly:)

My second choice I think would be a well-organized week-end type bag with a retro feeling which would be almost too pretty to use but so intrinsically associated with vacation and bliss that even looking at it would make one's mind thrift off to exotic (and homely) places:)

All my very best,
Christina"

Congratulations!  Please get in touch with me so you can have your 'trolley dash'.

I'm sorry to all of of you who didn't get lucky this time. Thanks to everyone who took part and for your kind birthday wishes.  Your comments have been so helpful in helping me plan for the upcoming workshops and they will no doubt come in very useful when I get U-Handblogger's block  OXO!

Craft mag

A new job, my 300th post, my 35th birthday, and £50 ($100) worth of U-Handbag goodies up for grabs!!

There's a lot going on in this post so I've broken it all up into headers:

My new (additional) job:

Firstly, I want to say a HUGE thank you for your kind words of encouragement for my job interview to become a bag making workshop tutor at The Make Lounge.  I'm not over egging it when I say that your lovely emails and comments gave me so much joy, heaps of confidence in myself, and they really helped me decide that it was a good decision to make.

So yesterday I went to the Make Lounge to meet Jennifer (the owner) for an interview chat.  The first thing that struck me was how nice the building is.  It's bright, airy, modern, and spacious with gleaming sewing machines and lots of handcraft dotted about the walls and displayed prettily on shelves.  Jennifer said she  already knew about me so the interview was more about what classes I could teach rather than whether I was suitable for the job.  So I start in September! Oh I'm so so so excited!  I left the interview with a psychotically wide grin on my face, on the way to the tube station I stopped in Ottolenghi for a raspberry and lemon cupcake (try eating a lemon cream cupcake when your face won't stop smiling; you'll look quite crazy and people will cross to the other side of the street).

I can't wait to start; one thing about working for yourself is that at times you can feel quite isolated so this is going to be such a nice way to meet other crafters (hopefully some of you folks included) face to face. Yipppee!

Mosaic
Here's a mosaic class at the Make Lounge in full swing; looks great fun! To see more pics of the Make Lounge look here.

My 300th blog post:

I can't thank all of my readers, commenters, customers, emailers, linkers, tutorial users, prize donors, contest entrants (have I missed anyone?) enough.  You've all helped make blogging so worthwhile and enjoyable for me and I'm so grateful for that.  I just hope that you find my next 300 posts useful and/or enjoyable :)

My 35th Birthday:

I hit 35 yesterday.  In this time of my life I feel very blessed and pretty fulfilled.  It's definitely one of my better birthdays.  Friends, family, and Beans are safe and well (those that have passed away are lovingly remembered and I'm pretty sure they would be quite happy with what I'm doing these days), I adore my work and hobbies, and there's always something tasty in the fridge.  I don't really need anything else to be as happy as Larry :0)

£50 ($100) of U-Handbag goodies up for grabs!!!!:

Yep, so all of that amounts to a lot of stuff for me to feel happy about so I am celebrating by giving a load of U-Handbag making goodies away.  1 draw winner will get to have a rummage around in my shop and choose themselves £50 worth of bag making goodness (except for fabrics and interlinings).  As long as it's in stock (and as long as it's not fabric or interlinings), the lucky winner can get their mitts on ANYTHING ELSE IN MY SHOP!

UHA contest

Draw Details (please read carefully)

£50 ($100, EUR63 approx) worth of U-Handbag bag making supplies will be given to 1 winner. I'll draw the winner in 2 weeks time - 27th June.

To enter all you have to do is comment on THIS PARTICULAR POST by answering this question:

  • If you were going to attend a 3 - 4 hour long bag making workshop what would you like to learn about and what bag/purse would you want to make?  I've deliberately made this an open question.  PLEASE be kinda detailed in your answer because (as you might have guessed) I'll be taking a close look at your comments  so they can help me plan the bag making workshops that I will start holding in September. Thank youuuu!

Contest Official-ness :

  1. I'll randomly draw the 1 winner in 2 weeks time - 27th June and announce the winner the following day-ish.  Good luck!
  2. Fabric and interlinings are not included in the prize, anything else in the shop is up for grabs as long as it is in stock.
  3. I'll need to ask the winner to make a donation for the postage.
  4. Sorry I can't notify winners, so please keep an eye for the winner announcement.  This is made easier for you if you subscribe to this blog so you don't have to keep checking back, although it's always great to have you pop-in for a read :0)
  5. Prizes which are not claimed within 3 weeks of the winner announcement will be carried forward to the next draw.
  6. Sorry I can't reply to contest/draw comments, but I do love reading every single one :)

And the winner of the sewing booty is...

Sorry about being slow to announce the winner of the Sewing Booty Draw.  Same old same old, busy with this that and the other.  Thanks to everyone who took part and put their bags into the group.  I really enjoyed holding this little draw because it was lovely to see all of your different interpretations of my tutorials.  I do have a soft spot for the U-Handbag Tutorial Flickr group because these tutorials are like my babies, you know :)

Booty
The sewing booty that was up for grabs.

Anyhoo, so picking the winner was a little tricky, because some of the comments were duplicate and some of the comments weren't entries.  After a bit of fiddling about The random number generator chose....

UCONNELLY who made this yummy Basket Style Bag (with a nice bit of piping):

Ursula
Love the colours and the Moda Swell fabric sure does look swell!  So summery.

So Ursula if you're reading this congratulations and please get in touch to claim your prize!

Thanks Sarah for making the Basket Bag Tutorial a PDF for me.  You're a Sweet Pea!

U-Handbag is in 3 craft mags this month & 3 of 'em are up for grabs. Woo!!

Gosh I feel like I should get my hair cut and perhaps get manicure done (yeah right! we all know that keeping painted nails nice during sewing is impossible).  Why the sudden urge to brush my hair?  Well, this month it just so happens that U-Handbag is a bit famous because I am appearing in 3 different craft mags all at once!  Mum & Dad are pretty chuffed :)

The first magazine is my regular slot in Sewing World Magazine where I have made this bag for the monthly tutorial.

The second is in Knit Today Magazine where the talented Nora J Bellows of Noni Designs has designed a knitting pattern for this absolutely adorable Ruby Tulips frame purse using one of my frames - LOVE it!

IMG
This outrageously cute Tulip Bouquet purse was made using a Silver Loop Handle Frame from U- Handbag.  Full pattern and felting instructions for the bag are on pg 28

May 29, 2008

And the winners of the Amy Butler Sewing Pattern Contest (Apr 08) are...

So this is my 292nd post and it's my birthday in around 2 weeks time.  I wonder which will happen first; the 300th post or my 3fthhh, 3fthhhh, 3thth...can't seem to type it....35th! birthday?  I'll be sure to commemorate the occasion/s with a super duper giveaway closer to the time.

Okeydokey so the winners of the May's Monthly Amy Butler Sewing pattern contest are:

Madison
I love the bright zingy colours of this Madison Bag and that fabric folded flower pin is something else!  By Priddy Creations.

Velma
This very graceful and slightly quirky Velma Bag will make a smashing party purse.  The fabric choice is wonderful as is the brooch pin on the flap.  By MinxyMagic

Soph This luscious Sophia Bag looks even nicer in the flesh (I know because I've seen it).  Made in velvet (which can't have been easy) by Joleo.

.

Well done Ladies!  Please get back to me with your choice of Amy Butler pattern and your postal address, and I'll send you your pattern.

Thanks to everyone else who entered, sorry you didn't get lucky this time.  You could always try your luck in next month's contest!

Tutorial Bag Eye Candy - and Sewing Booty giveaway!!

Thanks for your comments about the angsty woman. I completely agreed with all of your comments especially the 'craft blogs are nicer place to be' comments.  That's because we're nicer people :)

You might have noticed I have a new Bags & Purse made from free U-Handbag Tutorials Flickr pool.  I'm very chuffed with this pool because it's such a nice compliment when folks give your tutorials a whirl.  I get a buzz each time I see one of your pics of my designs.  Here are a few baggy delights from the tutorial pool:

Julia
This beauty of a clasp purse by Marmalade Kiss was made using this purse frame tutorial. Like, there's a zipper pocket in the lining and everything.  Even I haven't attempted that yet!

Lining
Speaking of zippers, Lesley bought herself this black bag, ripped out the cheap lining that came with the bag, and replaced it with this very pretty blue lining and sewed a zipper in too.  That's brave and talented; I'm not sure I would've made such a neat job of it!

Curved
I adore the fabric on this Reusable Groceries Bag made by Sewing Notions.  It's just too cute!

Back
I really love the fabrics on this gorgeous Backpack Bag too. Made by Sewing at Night and she enlarged the pattern to suit, which is impressive.

Righty, onto the Sewing Booty Giveaway.  In two weeks time I will randomly select one item made from one of my tutorials in the Bags & Purses Tutorial Flickr Pool and I will send the lucky winner all of the sewing booty as pictured below:

DSC_0062
Clockwise from top left:
  1. The current issue of Sewing World Magazine which is chock full of summer clothing ideas, gifts for fathers Day, an easy to whip-up summer jacket (with pattern), and easy to make summer hats.
  2. A bunch of fabric bolt ends in various sizes (3 of them large enough for  good sized bags, and the other 2 would make cute smaller purses etc.)
  3. 3 yummy turquoise coloured zips 8"
  4. A rosette of very pretty and very useful pearl leaf head pins.  These are FAB for bag making as they are looooong and strong (so they don't bend under all of those pesky layers).
  5. And finally, Amy Butler's Blue Sky Hats pattern is also up for grabs.  A wide brim hat is the best way to keep keep the glare of the sun at bay and they look pretty.  Here are 2 adorable finished Blue Sky Hats.

Draw Details (please read carefully)

I'll send the Sewing Booty to one lucky draw winner in 2 weeks time (6th June).

To enter all you have to do is comment on THIS PARTICULAR POST by:

And the winner of the purse frame is....

Thanks to everyone who listened to Al's song and commented on it (and thank you for your lovely emails about it too)  They really made him so happy.  As soon as he gets a little break from his studies he going to bash the song out again.  I'll be sure to post a link to it as soon as :)

If you want to have a look see there is a pic of Al (minus shirt...you've been warned!) playing his guitar and having a sing, in my Flickr photostream.
.

Apples
Up for grabs was the frame needed to make the purse above.
.

Anyways, without further ado, there were 48 entries for this draw and the random number picker (so you can't blame me) stopped on the number 41.

So will Saysie who wrote:

"I really liked the song, it was really catchy upbeat song, perfect for this time of year.
The only thing I found was the intro was too long, and did think it was just a instrumental. Apart from that a great tune : ) "

Please step forward and drop me an email to claim your prize?

Sorry to those who didn't get lucky this time, there is (as ever) another prize draw just around the corner...

.

PS: Ohh I've just seen this most excellent tutorial on how to sew a neat rounded bottom on a bag.  I'm in the middle of fixing up the tutorial for the paper folded lily right now.
